The Best Way to Share Your Resume With Recruiters in 2025

How to share your resume effectively with recruiters — what format to use, where to put your portfolio URL, and why a PDF alone is no longer enough.

Why "email me your resume" is an outdated workflow

The traditional resume-sharing workflow — PDF attached to an email — has real problems. The recruiter downloads the file, opens it, reads it, closes it, and loses it in their downloads folder. There's no way to know if they actually read it. There's no click-through to more context. The document can't update if you want to change something. And on mobile, PDFs are genuinely painful to read.

The modern workflow is better for everyone: a live portfolio website URL that a recruiter can open on any device, in any context, and that shows your work in a professional presentation designed to be read.

The four ways to share your resume — ranked

1. Portfolio website URL (best)
A direct URL to your portfolio website — notapdf.com/yourname or similar — is the most effective way to share your professional profile. It loads instantly, works on any device, looks professional, and can be tracked (you know when it's been viewed). Share it everywhere: email signature, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, SMS.

2. PDF resume attached to email (standard)
Required for most formal applications. Always name your file properly: FirstName-LastName-Resume.pdf, not Resume.pdf or CV_Final_v3.pdf. Include a brief email that references the role and highlights one relevant qualification. Don't send a generic email with no context.

3. LinkedIn profile link (credibility verification)
LinkedIn is where recruiters verify you exist and cross-reference your resume. It's not a primary sharing tool — it's a verification layer. Your LinkedIn URL in your resume header or email signature tells recruiters where to find you, not what to think of you.

4. Job portal application (high volume, low conversion)
Naukri and LinkedIn Apply generate the most applications but the lowest response rate per application. The volume is high; the personalisation is zero. This is the floor of job searching, not the ceiling. Supplement with direct outreach.

What to include when reaching out to a recruiter directly

When sending a cold message to a recruiter on LinkedIn or email:

 • Mention the specific role or company you're interested in
 • Include your portfolio URL — make it easy for them to get context immediately
 • State one specific, relevant thing about your experience (not a general claim)
 • Keep it under 100 words

Example:
"Hi [Name], I'm a backend engineer with 4 years of experience in Go and distributed systems, currently looking for SDE-2 roles. I noticed [Company] is hiring for a backend role — I've linked my portfolio below with details on my recent work. Happy to share my resume if relevant."

Including a portfolio URL in that message gives the recruiter something to click. A recruiter who reads your portfolio before responding to your message is already partially sold.

Where to put your portfolio URL

Once you have a portfolio URL, add it everywhere:

 • Resume header: After your LinkedIn URL. Name it "Portfolio" or just include the URL.
 • LinkedIn contact info: Add it as "Website" and label it "Portfolio."
 • Email signature: Portfolio URL on its own line, or next to your name.
 • GitHub profile: LinkedIn and website URL fields in your GitHub bio.
 • Naukri profile: Profile details section.

The URL should be clean and recognisable — notapdf.com/yourname is clean. A random subdomain from a free website builder is not.

Tracking: knowing when a recruiter opens your portfolio

notapdf portfolios include built-in view tracking. When a recruiter opens your portfolio, you see the visit. This tells you when you're getting interest — which helps you time your follow-ups and understand which applications are generating traction.
